When my husband and I were ready to choose a community to raise our family in, we had some very specific criteria. We wanted a community like the one we both grew up in, relatively small and tight knit where you knew everyone in town. We wanted a place that felt safe and a small town, where our son could jump on his bike and meet friends at a ball field. Oradell is all this and more.
It also had to have great schools. Oradell fit the bill beautifully with just one grammar school, the largest in Bergen County, a regional middle school (River Dell Middle School) for 7th and 8th grade and a regional high school (River Dell High School) for 9th-12th grades. Children from Oradell attend school with children from the town of River Edge just next door. Although the middle school has planned get-togethers for the children the summer before middle school starts, many know each other already. Oradell and River Edge children are involved in shared recreation programs throughout their elementary school years.
The recreation facilities are second to none with gorgeous ball fields and the state-of-the-art Doug Parcels Athletic Complex in addition to the middle school and high school facilities. There is also a beautiful (private) swim club with four pools.
Oradell has terrific transportation with both bus and train service to Manhattan. It is also conveniently located close to highways and the Garden State Parkway. The Paramus shopping malls are just next door and we have a lovely downtown area as well.
