If you're looking for an activity to do with the family before the big game this Sunday, the Morris County Park Commission is holding Winter's Day on the Farm at the Fosterfields Living Historical Farm on Kahdena Road in Morris Township. Activities will start at noon and run until 4 p.m. There will be wagon rides, maple tree tapping, an ice cutting harvest, crafts and farm animals. HOORAY! Jefferson Township made this list in position # 30 out of 50 towns. This is due to it's low crime rate, low poverty rate and overall quality of life. This town is approximately 40 sq. miles with NJ's largest lake and also Mahlon Dickerson Reservation, a County owned and managed woodland with paths, ponds and camping sites. Living here is like being on vacation all the time. Many newcomers often use those exact words after living here a little while.

  • Stomping this educational beat has an unforeseen side-bonus. Not only are you walking the same steps as George Washington and his Continental Army, you become immersed in what’s left of wild Northern New Jersey. The Whippany River bends and pushes under hunched, tree canopies. The Black and South Branch of the Raritan teem with trout. Fishing and birding opportunities abound.

The 35-mile-long Patriots Path visits famous historical sites, with many Revolutionary War highlights. Its eastern-most arm connects the Lenape Trail, the Essex County 40 Mile Greenway, while its western-most arm stretches to Sussex County’s Allamuchy State Park. The entire system is called the Liberty Water Gap Trail, which effectively combines for trail access from the Hudson River to the Delaware River.

The Morristown section of the Patriots Path may contain, step for step, some of the highest concentration of Revolutionary War scenery in New Jersey. So walk with history and bring the family!

Towns are rebuilding but recovery is slow. We all have that uneasiness in our thoughts, the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy is approaching. It serves as a powerful reminder that we need to be prepared to protect ourselves against natural disasters.

On this anniversary there are many volunteer efforts to clean up our state, continuing the spirit of compassion that united all of us one-year ago,

Prepare a disaster plan by safe proofing your home and business.
Be sure to purchase the correct insurance for your home, business and vehicle.
Good idea to have an up-to date inventory of your home and business.

We are stronger than the storm.

Ok..so I think the rope swing is a really great secret that only few know about. It's located in a section of Lake Hopatcong on the Morris county side in Jefferson Twp, just past Brady Bridge as you go into the Lake Forrest section on the left hand side. I have no idea who set it up, but it has been there for over a decade as far as I know. It is this fabulous rope swing that my kids love and beg me to take them and their friends to every summer. Its a real physical challenge to see who can pull themselves up (very tricky I might add) and make it from the tree perch to swing like Tarzan into the water. There is a high swing and a low swing and boats just pull up and their occupants take turns swinging. Its fun to watch and even more fun to try! So next time you are on the lake give it a whirl. Swing at your own risk.

I just bought myself a new pair of TOMS casual shoes. One of the reasons for choosing these shoes is the company's support of ONE FOR ONE. With this program, if you purchase a pair of these shoes, then the company donates a pair of new shoes to a child in need. Great way to give to those in need.
